Using the Wrong Imagery

A series inspired by the famous relief panels from the 8th century BCE Nimrud palace of Ashur-nasir-pal II.

The project began years ago, the cracks in the alabaster appealing to my rock-climber sensibilities. I am now following with sadness and horror the deliberate destruction of the ancient artifacts by the bulldozers and sledgehammers of ISIS, and this project has taken on a new dimension as a means of preservation and tribute.
